Whilst undoubtably on the lower side of odd for this particular environ, is it just me or has there been a certain lyrical upswing of late? A cursory inspection of the journals has revealed no less than three separate instances of inexplicable poesy, with some indication on the part of the participants that it is less than voluntary. Which strikes me as mildly, how should I put it . . . weird as sod.

Actually, now you mention it, Jane was rhyming in her email to me yesterday. I thought it was just a fluke, since livers singing seemed a perfectly Jane thing to say.

I think I'll take myself off to the research stuff and see if there's anything about spells and sudden outbreaks of poetry. Really honest poetry, at that.

Much appreciated. Amusing though it is to hear my flatmate lament our lack of toast in the form of a haiku, it is a bit odd. I am given to understand there was once an incident in which some particularly explosive fluke of probability caused certain parties to break out into spontaneous song, but to my knowledge Ms. Maximoff has been otherwise occupied and Jen's been behaving herself. In relative terms, at any rate.

(Though if this does turn out to be magical in nature, it will beg the question of what kind of person decided to invest what was no doubt considerable time in making ordinary dialogue a touch more lyric. Really, we dwell in a world of war, famine and reality television, and that is how one conspires to change the fabric or reality?)

I wanted some toast.
What the hell is wrong with that?
I gave up. Ate eggs. :(

You claimed that toast?
Then I confess a secret:
It was delicious.

Furthermore, there is no shame in eggs. Even if the syllables don't fit.

It's what I do. Look for things in dusty old books.

If it is a spell, well the main motivation would be either "for shits and giggles", or "revenge is mine!" Since you lot don't have the magical connections any more since 'Yana took up with us, I'd be inclined to say it's some kid with more magic ability then sense having a laugh. If it is a spell. The effect's a bit too diverse for me to be too hopeful - usually with the poetry it's prophecy, not truth.

I tend to agree as to the cause, if only because contemplating an individual whose idea of justice involves the forcible imposition of rhyme and metre fills me with a sort of wistful despair.

Strange, one would think a truth-spell would be most useful when levered against the older members, but no -- affliction is especially apparent amidst the younger and less security-cleared. Curious.

It's definitely affected more than three people... I had counted five people earlier, though I'll have to look up their names again as I've forgotten most of them. But I'm relieved to hear that this isn't normal for you people. It's a little off-putting (though 'weird as sod' is a good phrase for it, too.)

Date: 2008-04-16 07:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] x-emplate.livejournal.com
It rather depends on the agreed-upon definition of "normal." If quite narrow -- for instance, "it is not normal for inhabitants of Xavier's to lose the ability to speak in means of regular prose" -- then yes, this situation is decidedly uncommon. If, however, we are to examine the broad view -- ie., "it is not normal for inhabitants of Xavier's to find themselves victims of unexpected and inexplicable events" -- we are in somewhat different territory.

In short, though poetry = odd, oddness in general = depressingly common.

Well, that's... less than comforting. Unless of course odd things like this rhyming shit have affected my sister, in which case it's sort of amusing to think of.

From: [identity profile] x-emplate.livejournal.com
I cannot say as to your sister's fate, mostly because at present I can connect her to nothing more than random journal postings. However, I find it worth noting that "less than comforting" is at times the convenient bedfellow of "highly amusing". For an example, you might one day ask your new colleagues about the staff's last teambuilding retreat. Or, better yet, simply peruse photos from last year's prom and play "What's off about this picture?".

You say it is rather odd,
And also 'weird as sod.'
But as of this time,
You are not writing a rhyme
And for that you should say 'Thank God'.

It's claimed you as well? This is getting dire.

I also could write in verse
Though it makes me unusually terse,
But if solidarity makes you feel better
I shall hold to the letter
Though it mean concluding this promise with "purse."

But I fear 'twould be unkind.
So perhaps I should stay quiet
And go Tatiana to find.

I'm here. I've found that showers
are places without people
to hear me.

I don't even know you so
I don't know why you'd want to
find me, true.

Here I am, say what you will.
Just leave Marius out of
all of it.

I've already lost respect
if I had any to begin
with, with him.

Why did I have to say he
was hot? I wish mine could be
gone like Jean's.

This is true, and it is generally accepted I am quite irresistable. However, I believe that for the duration of this unexpected onslaught of truthiness I shall be over here, back beyond the bounds of propriety. This is nothing personal, but whilst the origin of this strange trend remains unknown and the shadow of what is referred to as "The Love Potion Incident" looms overhead I feel it safer to take no chances.

A mercifully unlikely scenario, as the only things in which I am well-versed enough to teach are those things which my parents, the staff, several prominent figures in law enforcement, and basic Darwinian law strongly urged me to discontinue.

Besides, as a base capitalist I feel my future is in Business.
